At multiple points in Saturday’s game fans were left scratching their heads at why we were taking out our passing quarterback and inserting our running QB. Now if this were Gary Pinkel the questions after the game would be dismissed because that was simply “part of the game plan” and how dare you question that. But following the game when the questions did come, Coach Odom did something weird: he answered them.
He admitted that he pulled Lock at the wrong time and replaced him with Zanders. He still wants to play both QBs which I don’t totally understand, but I can appreciate his openness to owning his mistake. He went on to say "moving forward, we've got to make sure that within the plan on using both guys, that we do it strategically."
So was it everything I hoped for on the field? No, there’s a lot to still fix about this team. Is it going to get fixed this year? No. We will probably win 4 or 5 games this season, but I have hope for the future based on the fact that Coach Odom knows there is work to do and is willing to own his mistakes.
